GLOSSARY FOR NUMEROLOGY By Gail Carswell

Balance number: The balance number is the sum of the numerical value of the initials of the full name as it was given at birth.

Birth Day Number: The Birth Day number represents the day of birth. This number is reduced to a single digit only when it is part of a calculation to find other numbers.

Bridge numbers: The Bridge numbers are found by subtracting one core number from another. The Bridge numbers represent the relationship between tnethe individual core numbers.

Capstone: The capstone is the last letter of the first name as it was given at birth

Cardinal number: Any of the numbers 1 through 9.

Challenge numbers: The Challenge numbers are derived from the date of birth through subtraction.

Core numbers: The core numbers are the most important numbers in a numerology chart. They consist of the Life Path number, the Expression number, The Heartís Desire number, the Personality number, and after age thirty five, the Maturity number,

Cornerstone: The cornerstone is the first letter of the first name as it was given at birth.

Current name: (also called the short name): The current name is the name one uses to introduce oneself, including the last name. Middle initial, titles, or extension such as Jr. or III are not used.)

Destiny: See Life Path.

Epicycle: In numerology each year of your life is part of an evolving pattern that can be described as a nine year cycle or Epicycle. These cycles begin at your birth and progress through nine steps that complete an Epicycle and begin again. Some numerologists use the Master Numbers here also.

Essence Cycle: The Essence Cycle can last from one to nine years, and is based on the combination of Transits that are in place during any given year. (See also Transits.)

Expression number: The Expression number is the sum of the numerical value of all the letters in the full name as it was given at birth.

First Challenge: The first Challenge is the difference between the single digit numbers that represent the month and the day of birth.

Forth Challenge: The Forth Challenge is the difference between the single digit numbers that represent the month and the year of birth.

Heartís Desire number: The Heartís Desire number, sometimes called the Soul Urge number, is the sum of the numerical value of all of the vowels in the full name as it was given at birth.

Karmic Debt numbers: The Karmic Debt numbers are the numbers 13, 14, 16, and 19.

Karmic Lesson number: A Karmic Lesson number is a number that is not represented anywhere in the full name as it was given at birth. A name may reveal more than one Karmic Lesson number.

Life Path number: The Life Path number is the most important number in the chart and is based on the sum of all the digits in the date of birth. There are two ways to figure the Life path number. One way adds all the numbers together and produces a single digit number. The second way arrives at the same single digit result as the first, but can have a different double digit number as the second method reduces the MONTH + the DAY digits as a separate reduced digit, and then the YEAR digit is added and further reduced to a digit. If on either of these methods a Master Number is the result of a double digit, this is considered as well as the final single digit.

Main Challenge: The Main Challenge is the difference between the numbers that represent the First and Second Challenge.

Master numbers: The Master Numbers are the numbers 11, 22, and, in rare cases, the number 33. (Note: Some numerologists believe that the numbers 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, and 99 are also Master Numbers. However, the Master Numbers 11, 22, and 33 form a triangle that represents potential mastery. The number 33 in the top depicts enlightenment. The numbers 44 and up have no place in this triangle, and should be reduced to single digits).

Maturity number: The Maturity number is found by adding the Expression number to the Life Path number, and by reducing the number found to a single digit. The Maturity number comes in later in life, around age thirty-five.

Mental Transit: The Mental Transit is based on the middle name as it was given at birth, or, in case no middle name was given, on the last name as it was given at birth. See also Transits.
